Fukuchiyama City is scheduled to resume its fireworks display in August after an 11-year absence, prioritizing safety and taking meticulous measures to prevent a recurrence of past accidents.
To ensure safety, various measures are being implemented, including expanding no-entry zones, securing fire engine access routes, and strengthening management of street vendors. The city also plans to actively assist victims in the event of an accident.
This event aims to revitalize the local area and provide residents with enjoyable and safe fireworks, serving as a model for future events and ensuring its continued success.
Fukuchiyama City in Kyoto Prefecture is working to resume the city's fireworks display, which was suspended after a stall explosion accident in 2013, in August this year after an 11-year hiatus.
On the 11th, Fukuchiyama City approved the sponsorship of the fireworks display executive committee, aiming for an August launch. Going forward, the city plans to consult with related organizations such as the fire department and police station and provide the executive committee with advice and guidance on safety measures.
The executive committee is comprised of the general incorporated association 'DOKKIOSE' (ドッコイセ), which promotes regional revitalization activities, the Fukuchiyama Tourism Association, and three shopping districts in the city, and applied for sponsorship from the city.
According to the executive committee, approximately 2,000 fireworks are scheduled to be launched on the evening of August 11th from the Yuragawa Riverbank, where the accident occurred.
As safety measures, the committee plans to expand the no-entry zone compared to past events, close the Otonese Bridge for fire engine access, and station security guards. Furthermore, they plan to restrict the placement of stalls to a nearby park and prohibit the use of anything other than IH cooking equipment and charcoal fire, ensuring thorough safety management.
In May, Fukuchiyama City accepted a proposal from a 'Gathering to Consider the Direction of Fireworks Displays' composed of experts, stating that if an organization meets the conditions of participation by a public entity in the executive committee and the implementation of safety measures, they would support the event.
Yukiaiki Okuda (奥田幸明), the 43-year-old chairman of the executive committee, stated, "We will prioritize safety and prepare with a sense of responsibility and determination. We hope to use this year as a model case to ensure the continuation of the fireworks display in the future."
Mayor Kazuo Ohashi (大橋一夫) stated, "In the event of an accident, we will participate in victim relief and take necessary measures."
Fukuchiyama City intends to learn from the fireworks display accident that occurred 11 years ago, prioritize safety, and thoroughly prepare to provide citizens with a safe and enjoyable fireworks display.
