DeepL, the machine translation solution, has added new editing mode and file translation features to its official website and mobile app. The update, announced on April 29th, significantly enhances user convenience.

First, the new "editing mode" allows users to edit translations after they have been completed. DeepL Pro subscribers, regardless of their plan (Starter, Advanced, Ultimate), can use this feature for documents up to 50,000 characters in DOCX, PPTX, PDF, HTML, TXT, XLIFF, and other formats. Previously, users had to download the files and open them in a separate program to edit the translations. Now, editing can be done directly on the DeepL website.

Specifically, editing mode helps improve translation quality by suggesting alternative translations when a word is clicked. The definition, usage, and synonyms of the word are also displayed. Users can directly edit the content in the right panel where the actual translation is displayed, while the left panel shows the original text for easy comparison. Once editing is complete, users can download the updated translation directly by clicking the "Download edited translation" button at the bottom of the screen without saving the file separately.

This update also enables Excel file translation in the desktop app. Excel translation has been supported since last November, but now it is also available in the Mac and Windows desktop apps. This feature is available only to DeepL Pro users with Advanced and Ultimate plans.

Furthermore, the iOS and Android mobile apps now allow users to scan and translate text from PDF, HTML, and TXT files. DeepL explained that this comprehensive update, encompassing desktop, web, and mobile, will significantly enhance the user experience for mobile app users. The company plans to continuously improve features to provide convenient and high-quality translation services.
